Pigeon Branding + Design

pigeon branding and design - BRGD - brandon rampelt graphic designThis week marks the start of my short stay at Pigeon Branding + Design in Oakville as a graphic design placement. Along with two friends and fellow designers, we are committed to immersing ourselves into a new world. A professional world. Only a few days in and I can see myself working in such an environment for real. Pigeon has numerous big name clients and my friends and I get to handle some of their design work, a big thrill for us. Among those clients, Pigeon designs for Tim Hortons, Kraft Foods and Life Brand for Shoppers Drug Mart, just to name a few. With a few weeks of work still ahead I am looking forward to continuing down this path and onto graduation; possibly even job offers. Opportunities multiply as they are taken (Sun Tzu) and I am certainly glad I took this one.

ManMade DIY

Chris Gardner of ManMadeDIY.com has graciously posted my work on the Cd/iPod Stereo onto his incredible do-it-yourselfer website. As the founder of ManMade and Editor-in-chief of Curbly I am thankful that the diy community likes what I made. As a hobby outside of my graphic design career, diy gives me an outlet for my curiosity and idle hands. I’ll take a quote from the folks at Makezine, “If you can’t open it, you don’t own it.”

Halfway Through…

tabasco food packaging and diy design magazineThe first term of my last year is complete! Lots and lots of work has been made and many hours of sleep have been sacrificed. All in the name of good graphic design. The most satisfying thing is seeing your work all set up for display—and judgement by my peers and teachers. At this point I am putting together a portfolio to find an internship for next semester. I cannot believe my schooling is almost over and I’ll be looking for the job of my dreams soon after that.
If you like what you here please don’t hesitate to ask questions or connect with me through e-mail, phone, LinkedIn, Twitter, Flickr or Facebook.
I will be adding projects here when I find the time between school and career stuff. Currently working on a new website as well.

Current Projects and News

It’s been almost two months since the start of my 3rd and final year here at Conestoga College and the workload has been steady and interesting. I have already updated my Common Edition page with photos of a product redesign, and have worked on other projects such as financial reports, sustainable packaging and magazine layout and design.

I am also continually working on my  thesis project for Graphic Design. So far the topic is to produce an informative campaign against the use of plastic bottles through interactive public displays and installations. As this develops I will be posting images here.

Next week i will be attending the Applied Arts awards gallery show in Toronto on Oct.26-27th with nervous excitement.

On November 1st-3rd I will be attending the RGD Design Thinkers conference in Toronto. This includes some studio tours, welcome parties, a meet and greet with George Lois,  and the chance to listen to some of the experts in the industry.I expect to see some familiar faces from the Applied Arts show will be in attendance as well. You can also pick up a free copy of Applied Arts magazine by visiting their booth at the conference center.
